I don’t know why you say goodbye I say Salaam Namaste

Oh what a nice evening! Got some biryani from the take-away, and Salaam Namaste.
I think this film has my favorite screen-shot of Saif to now:the t-shirt! And I love Saif. and Preity. and Arshad! I didn’t know he was in it, squee! Was just thinking of how I have to re-watch Kabul Express and get me some Arshad Warsi-fixes, turns out he’s in this lovely film that I happened to find at the library today.

The story is nice (and predictable). Boy meets girl (or doesn’t), they fight and fall in love. So far so good. The interesting thing is how the film doesn’t stop at this point, but goes on and shows that people grow in a relationship, although some people take more time than other.

Sooooo pretty! Sooooo much eye candy! Jodhaa Akbar

The love story of Mughal emperor Akbar and Rajput princess Jodhaa, interpreted by Ashutosh Gowariker, the story of how India was conquered by the Mughals, and so much eye candy, that’s Jodhaa Akbar for me. I had rather low expectations, as I’d read some unfavourable reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I didn’t know anything about the Mughals before I saw JA; there’s lots I should and want to catch up on, where to start? That’s why I cannot say anything as to if and how historically correct or adequate JA is. To me, it’s a tale about an emperor who actually wanted not to conquer, but to win the people’s hearts. On the other hand, it’s a tale about a woman who shapes her fate, and does not only acquiesce it. She marries Akbar for reasons of state, nevertheless she isn’t the victim of those reasons, but presents her demands and wishes. Possibly it’s a fairytale, but it doesn’t matter much to me. It’s beautifully told, and I agree with the main messages.

Omkara: thoughts on a second (or third? forth? tenth?) viewing

I still love this movie, though it leaves me bereft any hope, despondent and despaired, with a general feeling that the world is evil, and all that is left to do is to cry. Go to wikipedia’s entry on Omkara for a plot summary.

However, there was so much I had forgotten since the last time! For one thing, I had forgotten how much there is to drool over. Kajol is a lucky girl, to be married to Ajay Devgan!

Then there’s Kesu (Viveik Oberoi), droolworthy as well…

Another movie I’ve got to watch: Bazi

Last sunday I watched OSO for the second time, and: there are so many movies I have to see.

But, this is about another film. I discovered today that my 2nd fav AB2 movie, Bluffmaster, covers a song from the 1950 Bazi with Dev Anand and Geeta Bali, “Tadbeer Se Bigdi Hui”. See the video here:

A Classic: Dilwale Dulhaniye Le Jayenge

DDLJ is one of those movies that I’d never rent at the rental shop, simply because I’d be to embarrassed – I was convinced that it’s one of those cliché bollywood movies with Shahrukh Khan.
Now, the Babylon Mitte has a Berlinale special: A Tribute to Shahrukh Khan. Yesterday, they showed DDLJ, and G convinced me to go and see it. I didn’t regret it – it’s funny, sometimes involuntarily so. It’s instructive – now I know that Swizzerland is a part of London, or the other way round. It has Shahrukh Khan in all his modes – comic, romancing, loving, charming, psychopath and killer – what more could you want?
I liked the songs, and picturizations. It was especially funny to watch the Swiss, and their reaction to crazy Indians.
If you haven’t seen it, go and see it. Wear those shades that filter every traditional moral, otherwise there are some moments where you’ll puke. It ain’t big cinema, but it’s certainly entertaining.

tagged: 8 facts about Lisa and Bollywood

Sorry I kept you waiting, Matte! It seems I should write eight facts, or habits, about me. I’ll skip the “tag 4 other people” bit. Matte said that religion is the new black (LBD), however I state that Bollywood is the new pink, errm, no, I mean black!
